Samhain Ritual

Happy Samhain!!! It’s the time when the veil between the worlds is thin, and our spirits are present with us. They’re reaching beyond and offering their presence in our lives. Reach back, even if for just a few minutes today.

It’s also a time to let go of something— to clear space in your life for a new beginning. To set intentions.

Honor your witchy self by celebrating today. Here is a ritual for you to do. Feel free to modify it as you would like!

1. Spend time in nature. Give thanks to the Earth for Her abundance. Gather things from the Earth to place on your altar, like leaves, stones, sticks, etc. As you walk, be present in your body. See what objects draw you in… they are gifts from the Earth.

  1. Decorate your altar. Include objects that remind you of loved ones who have passed. Include the objects you’ve found on your nature walk. You may include things like apples, cider, pomegranate, or pumpkins.

  2. Visualize a circle of light all around you in that space. Say, “In this space, we welcome helpful spirits and we invite our ancestors to join us.” As the circle is cast, invite Goddess/God.

  3. Raise your energy through deep breathing, drumming, dancing, or meditation.

  4. From that elevated state, say, “I allow my eyes to see, ears to hear, and body to know things I might not otherwise see, hear, or know. From this protected space, I open myself to you, spirit, to reveal what you shall.” Be still, and connect with your guiding spirits. What information or messages come to you? You might try using Tarot cards or other divination tools at this time for guidance.

  5. This is a good time, too, to make a tincture, amulet, oil blend, or other potion to memorialize the essence of this holiday. As you do, fill that created object with an intention.

  6. Once you’re finished with divination and anything else you do to support your magic, eat the fruit on your altar or drink whatever you choose to include in your ritual. In fact, having a great big feast is a good way to conclude the celebration!! After you’re finished, open the circle, thanking and releasing the helpful spirits and the Divine — Goddess God.
