August Horoscopes

We start the month with the Sun in Leo. The domesticated cat is a distant relative of the lion, which is Leo’s signature symbol. Did you know a cat sleeps between 12-16 hours a day? Draw on this as a metaphor for the month by getting rest to recharge and prepare for the Sun’s entry into Virgo and a busier time of year. After all, the outer planets, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Pluto, are moving backward to signal a time of introspection and deep healing.

In general, August is one of the more peaceful months of the year, though it’s not without its bumps in the road. So, take advantage of the quiet times to catch up on reading, finish a long-term project, or experiment with a new creative outlet. On August 1, the Sun meets with Mercury in Leo, and both will oppose Saturn. It is a time to stay committed to a project or idea, regardless of how frustrating it might seem. Delays are possible. Relax and let go of any need to control circumstances or outcomes in your life.

On August 8, the Leo New Moon shakes up our desire for change. The Moon will square Uranus in Taurus, stirring our desire to express the truth in our hearts no matter what the consequences may be. This lunation signifies a boost of passion and courage, and your creative urges could run high. Your task? To express yourself clearly without censoring what you have to say. Speak from the heart.

Loyalty is a Leo keyword, and when the Sun’s in Leo, we tend to feel more steadfast in our commitments, connected to our close friends, and willing to forgive hurt feelings. Mercury, the messenger planet, enters discerning Virgo on August 11. It’s a time to let go and declutter to prepare for what’s coming. What kinds of negative thoughts can you purge between August 9-11? Let them all go to feel freer in your life.

Mars will square the North and South Nodes on August 11, and you could be frustrated if you feel stagnant in your life or unfulfilled in your work. Hang in there! Remember that purposeful living starts by appreciating your life as it is right now, regardless of where you envision it being.

On August 15, Venus enters her own sign of Libra and harmonizes differences. When Venus is in Libra, the sign of justice, you might face challenges making financial or relationship decisions. On August 18, be cautious not to act on an impulse. Mercury is conjunct Mars at that time, and you might need to talk things out to resolve challenges.

On August 22, we have the second of two Full Moons in Aquarius, and this influence fires up our desire to give back and make a difference. This Full Moon happens at the last degree of Aquarius, leaving us to wonder, “What’s next?” At the same time, we’re holding tight to our values and life as we know it. The sign of Aquarius is the sign of friends and community groups. How can you become more involved in your community while also honoring your needs for space and freedom? These are questions that could be on your mind as you create a structured plan for moving forward into a new social scene.

The Sun enters Virgo on the 22nd, shortly after the Full Moon. Virgo is a sign associated with ritual, discernment, and order. How can your daily activities be sacred rituals? Do more of those kinds of activities at the end of the month.

We close out with a bang as Pluto forms a square aspect to Eris on August 27, a time when we could see disruptions in our day-to-day lives for the sake of progress. Think: The bus gets a flat tire only to have a brand new one that drives so much better. Or your partner sparks a debate that becomes a fight. The two of you hash things out and grow stronger as a result. These are the sorts of upsets that can happen with Pluto square Eris transits.

On August 29, Messenger Mercury enters Libra as the peacemaker, helping you navigate differences in relationships and express your love for another person. Don’t hold back your feelings; speak your truth!
