2024 Astrology

We're in a transition period, moving from one consciousness to another. When outer planets change signs, they usher us into a new paradigm. This year, Pluto enters Aquarius and starts a new 20-year cycle. Neptune and Uranus move through the last degrees of their respective signs before starting new cycles in 2025. We will experience the tension -- the growing pains -- as we move from the planets in earth and water signs to air and fire ones. It's essential to use our collective imagination to create the world we live in. We're not passive observers caught in the winds of fate; we're creators whose minds and hearts compel us to change what isn't working. It's a year of envisioning and dreaming—a year of imagining what's possible and letting those ideas be the seeds we plant.

Pluto’s ingress into Aquarius on January 20, is the overarching theme for this year. It’s an energetic umbrella that shades the other transits. Pluto moves back into Capricorn on September 1, 2024, but only to clear up any final business before moving back into Aquarius for its 20-year stay on November 19, 2024. The Pluto transition story started last year but picks up the pace at the start of 2024.

Pluto’s entry into Aquarius allows us to organize and unite for significant social change. This transit inspires us to be agents of change; we’ll experience this as a revolutionary time. As Pluto moves between the last degrees of industrious, goal-oriented Capricorn and freedom-seeking, innovative Aquarius, many of the global concerns we face with housing, borders, and economic disparities will reach a head. We will feel a groundswell of socio-political change, and technology will be a driving force.

Another transit to watch for is the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction on April 20. I imagine an enthusiastic Jupiter barreling through Taurus toward the planetary change agent. It asks us to be intentional with our thoughts, words, and actions. We want to focus our thoughts on the positive changes we desire and to start now before the transit perfects. We also want to resolve conflicts by being honest with ourselves and others. Everything good, bad, or indifferent can escalate under Jupiter’s expansive light.

Themes for the year are:

  • Possibilities

  • Manifestation

  • Desired Outcomes

  • Wonder

  • Peacemaking

Possibilities

The numerology for 2024 adds up to 8. (2+2+4 = 8) Eight is the number of completions. It's the harvest after the summer Sun's rays have shone down on the growing crops. It's the period of the nine-year cycle when we reap what we've sown. It's the number associated with culmination and manifestation. Think about the energy of 2017, another eight year, for reference. Whatever you started that year will come full circle in 2024.

In addition to the numerology, Neptune and Uranus are in the last degrees of their respective signs. We feel the cycles ending as we prepare for the new ones beginning next year.

Neptune, in particular, is one to watch. Neptune stations retrograde at 29˚ Pisces 55' on July 2, signaling a time when our imaginations are most open and inspired. What can we envision for the future of our world? Imagine the possibilities...

In this same vein, this is the year augmented and virtual reality could become present in our everyday lives. Artificial intelligence is here in ways we haven't seen before, and it will be used in all areas of life, from cooking to driving to military operations.

Manifestation

Pluto is making its way through the last degrees of Capricorn, and it will enter Aquarius this year, ushering in a new 20-year cycle. It enters Aquarius on January 20 but will retrograde back into Capricorn from September 1 to November 19. It’s a time to understand we have the power to change our lives and affect change in the world. We are capable of creating new ways of being, and the start of this cycle offers us the chance to set a new paradigm into motion.

Capricorn is an industrious, goal-oriented sign. It’s the sign associated with capitalism and corporations. The Sun conjoins Pluto at the last degrees of Capricorn on January 20 before both enter Aquarius.

As Pluto enters Aquarius, it will bring more of an emphasis on what it means to be free. Can we feel liberated if we know others are being oppressed? This year shows us how to experience our individual power in a world with hierarchal power structures. We’ll find new ways to connect with others, build community, and likely have new virtual spaces for gathering.

Saturn in Pisces adds to the flavor of this transit. Saturn, the planet of responsibility, moves through the sign of mysticism all year, bringing us into spiritual union with others and our working with the unseen, magical realm. Expect psychedelic therapy to be a growing trend as people seek to have experiences of oneness like we do in deep meditation or ritual practices.

In 2023, we re-evaluated how we think about labor, workers’ rights, ethics, and compensation. We will build on those themes this year.

With Neptune in its last degrees of Pisces, we’ll experience a spiritual upgrade, which could be uncomfortable while we’re in it. However, we’ll emerge more available for love, compassion, and connection.

Desired Outcomes

The most exciting transit happens on April 20 as Jupiter meets Uranus in Taurus. This transit occurs once every 13-14 years, and we experience breakthroughs. Innovative ideas are born, though they take a few years to form in visible ways. We experience outcomes as the cycle ends (before April 20). Reflect on the events happening in your life in 2010. What is concluding right now?

Jupiter's influence expands and magnifies. It's associated with luck and opportunity but can also relate to an inflated sense of what's possible. Uranus is the planet of progress, change, and inspired visions. It's also the planet of rebellion -- pushing beyond the limits. It's a visionary influence but can feel disruptive if we resist change.

When these two planets come together, we have the right mix of excitement and inspiration. Anything feels possible! The key to making the most of this transit is to be intentional with your thoughts, impeccable with your word, and know what your shadow side needs.

Preparing for this transit, I'm finding ways to stretch my imagination by writing fiction, creative meditation, and diving into virtual reality. Because grounding is extra important at this time, I've discovered new ways of working with natural dyes in my painting. My hands might be blue with indigo all year! What stretches your mind and embodies your spirit? Do more of that this year.

The year's first quarter could feel like a whirlwind as we move toward this new cycle. Life will show you the past commitments that don't need to be carried into your future. Accept the magic of evolution.

Wonder

Saturn and Neptune moving through Pisces open our eyes to wonder. They open our hearts to magic, synchronicity, and amazement. Despite the difficulties inherent in any transition period, we feel guided and led. We feel the spiritual and can better attune to the voices of our ancestors.

Saturn and Neptune in Pisces offer us tremendous movements in the arts. At the same time, Pluto’s entry into Aquarius brings technology to the forefront of our imagination.

We will find ways to make technology more accessible, allowing artists, leaders in all sectors, and entrepreneurs to implement innovative ideas. We’ll be marrying technology with the arts, and innovations in environmental sustainability will be a prominent feature of Pluto’s time in Aquarius.

Saturn’s influence is somber, and we feel it in whatever sector it’s transiting. There can be hardships in those areas. Pisces rules the film and music industries, drugs and alcohol, the arts, rehab facilities, hospitals, medicine, and healing.

Saturn will conjoin Neptune in February 2026 - one of the more significant transits of the decade. As the two finish out their synodic cycle this year, we could see a rise in virtual reality, psychedelics, and anything that allows us to gain altitude for our terrestrial experiences. We could also see more news about UFOs.

Pluto in Aquarius stretches our minds beyond belief. It pushes us into the quantum field as a playground for our imagination. Wonder is a word you’ll hear often in 2024.

PeaceMaking

The North Node entered Aries on July 12, 2023, and we’ve seen the devastation of war and the rallying cries for peace. The eclipses on March 25, April 8, September 17, and October 2 highlight the Aries/Libra axis line. Aries is the warrior sign. Its influence asks us to protect what we hold dear. The North Node moves through Aries, and the South Node moves through Libra from July 12, 2023, to January 2025.

This axis line emphasizes independence/collaboration, war/peace, and self-direction/partnership. We could experience loneliness that compels us into relationships. These conflicts remind us of how good it feels to be at peace or relationship challenges that help break unhealthy patterns like codependence.

We’re learning about peace, which means expanding our awareness to accommodate contrast without the emotional charge of suffering. It’s acceptance with an impetus to neutralize polarity.

Tragically, we’re also learning about war. It’s an assault on our humanity to witness the violence. Many of us feel powerless in the face of war, so we gather together in peace vigils or join demonstrations. As a collective, we must break the cycle of evolution through contrast. We can learn peace without knowing the pain of war.

What are the warring factions inside yourself? Prioritize your inner peace by expressing your anger, establishing boundaries, and gathering in communities that support your deep need for connection.
